Vario Side Cases - Install

Ok so this one isn’t much of an install, since the bike came pre-installed with the mounts. Thats usually the install portion of it, but to my surprise, the cases had brackets that needed to be installed on them.

i got these side cases from A&S cycles, they were less expensive then getting it from NYC dealer and saved me tax. Shipping was free too. I sent them my key, the keyed the new cases to match my existing. they were great to deal with, and all in all took about a week or so start to finish. Of note, you need to call them to place the order if you want  your existing key to work with the new cases.

I was a bit surprised that i had to install brackets on the outside of the cases, but after everything it made sense. 

the instructions make it look easier then it is. those little nuts with flat plate on them below, have to slide in to that bracket (flat side of nut facing the corrugated side). the problem is that the nut slides to far in. 

you need to have the cases upside down otherwise the nuts will fall right out of the bracket. you know, gravity. to solve the issue of the nuts falling too deep in to the bracket i inserted tiny bits of packing in to the hole and compressed it down with a tweaker screw driver. i then inserted the nuts, pushed them down, and from the inside of the case started screwing them in just enough so the first side held. then i repeated on the 2nd side of the bracket. when both were in, i tightened the screws. at this point i tightened them all the way, but .. my experience is your gain. leave them loose enough so that the bracket can move up or down easily. this is why they aren’t pre installed, because they need to fit on the bikes brackets tightly, and this will ensure a tight fit.

when you place the case on the bike, that bracket above sits on the bikes bracket. you will need to jiggle the case around while pushing the cases bracket as close as possible to the bikes bracket. you want to remove all spacing between the brackets so its tight, and then tighten the screws from inside the case for final placement. when you are done and the cases are on the bike, they should not move at all when you pull them up and down. if they do, try getting those case brackets closer to the bikes brackets by loosening screws adjusting and tightening again.
