Joining the Boxer Club

Joining the Boxer Club

How long have you been riding? It’s a question you hear often amongst riders and you’ll usually hear an answer based on time. I myself have been riding for about 2.5 years. How that equates to experience though, not very well. In reality, a better way to gauge experience would be mileage. It’s not the only way, there are a lot of other factors, but to me mileage is a better measurement. I've ridden around 25k miles in those 2.5 years. A lot has happened since then, and now, I join the Boxer Club.

Denali Power Hub 2

Denali Power Hub 2

I bought this months ago, and finally got around to installing it. Having a garage really helps, and since I'm now garage equipped, it was easier to work on the bike. I bought the power hub because I have too many electrical devices hard wired directly to my bikes battery. That and my aux lights could be turned on at any time because of the way they were wired, key in or not.

S.O.L.A.S Reflective Stickers

S.O.L.A.S Reflective Stickers

Originally I had black discrete 3M reflective stickers on my varios cases. That was when the cases were new and scratch free, i was trying to keep the look clean. Over the past year the cases have taken some damage, and due to having to replace a part on one of them, i was now in need of new reflective stickers. I heard great things about S.O.L.A.S and it hasn't disappointed. It was also really easy to install.

Dainese Jacket Tear and Replace

Dainese Jacket Tear and Replace

Last summer I did quite a bit of research looking for a great summer jacket. The summers in NYC are hot and humid. Pair that with a commuting life style, stop and go traffic, you really need something that breathes. I settled on the Dainese Air Flux. I loved it, rocked it all summer and it was perfect. Light weight, and stylish. I barely felt it on. This spring my brother in law took a little spill on his "new to him" harley sportster, while borrowing my jacket. It was a slow speed 20mph fall, and the jacket was damaged beyond enough to warrant a replacement. Looking at the damage to the jacket, and to my brother in law, i realized that the jacket wouldn't do great at any fall at faster speeds than that. I went to research a worth replacement.

9K Oil Change + Chain Tensioning

9K Oil Change + Chain Tensioning

I decided to do this service myself. It's my first oil change ever, and on a motorcycle as well. I also wanted to adjust the chain as it was sagging a bit. I only adjusted a chain once before, and that was on a rented vstrom on the side of the road somewhere in Colorado. The concept is the same across all chain driven bikes. After watching a few youtube videos, ordering some parts from amazon, and picking up some tools from auto zone and home depot, I was able to complete both, making me feel more connected to my bike.

Vario Madness - Review, Repair, and Modifications

Vario Madness - Review, Repair, and Modifications
Or, Everything you ever wanted to know about Vario cases, but were afraid to ask.

One of the beautiful things about BMW's Vario cases is that they can be repaired part by part. My case was recently damaged while parked. I ordered the one part that broke and replaced it. It wasn't easy, i made a bunch of mistakes, but I now know how to take apart the entire case and put it back together. On top of that, I also added Bungie Buddies to the top of them. This post is going in to good detail on how to repair them, and touch on modifications you can add to them.
