MotoCamping - Week 7 - Clarence Fahnestock

MotoCamping - Week 7 - Clarence Fahnestock

This week I went to a campsite slighty more north east then bear mountain, to Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Parm. I checked the weather 10 times before I went. This was supposed to be the only rain free day of the week. The roads up were nice and twisty as I like them. Usually most of the enjoyment on these solo camping trips are about the time on the bike. The other part of the fun is the unexpected. Unexpected events = adventure.

Moto Camping - Week 6 - Brothers on Bikes

Moto Camping - Week 6 - Brothers on Bikes

I’ve been bugging my brothers, Alan and Harry, to come moto camping with me, and i finally got them to come. We rented them bikes from jupiter rentals in brooklyn. Great guy, great place, highly recommended. Harry rented a lowered F650GS which is almost identical to my bike just a couple years old before they changed the name to the 700. Alan rented an R1200RT Sport Tourer. I only have a two person tent, so alan bought a personal sized single person tent on the cheap for the night. They took their bikes home for the night, packed them up, and we met up on the palisades parkway state line around 4pm, and continued on to bear mountain for a great time riding and camping.

Motorcycle Trip 2015

By the time I get out of the Army in 2015 I’ll have 8 years time in service, 4 years time spent overseas and 3 combat deployments but most importantly, three months paid vacation. While I’ve always envisioned going across Europe or ever around the world on a motorcycle, at this point in my life,…

I think this is a great idea. Get intimate with the country you fought for.

Long Way Round

Just finished watching the long way round on Netflix. What an incredible and inspiring journey.

In 2004 Ewan and Charley embarked on an epic Long Way Round challenge, to bike 20,000-miles, cross 12 countries and 19 time zones in just 115 days. Riding their BMW GS R1200s, they crossed Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia to ride the Road of Bones through Siberia, over to Alaska, through Canada, North America and finished in New York. The Long Way Round journey would challenge their view of the world and also test their physical endurance.

Moto Camping - Week 5 - Sandy Hook, NJ

Moto Camping - Week 5 - Sandy Hook, NJ

this week was fun in a different way. I’ve been wanting to take my wife along on my adventures, and lately she’s been a bit frustrated that I’ve been going without her. this week i promised i would take her with me, if she would be willing to ride on the back of my bike. we chose a camp site nearby, so that it would be a shorter ride for her. it would still be her longest ride on the back of the bike, and another challenge would be fitting everything on the bike, and her at the same time. exciting!

Moto Camping - Week 4 - Wharton State Forest

Moto Camping - Week 4 - Wharton State Forest

this happened to be one of my more exciting outings so far. i left my comfort zone a bit more then usual. from camping in a primitive camp site, to leaving the pavement for my first bits off road excitement. i love this state forest, and i will be back.

Gear Changes? Not Yet.

A buddy of mine asked on google+ in response to one of my google story posts:

Looks like you have a very successful motorcycle camping kit! did everything go well? what changes are you going to make in equipment?

i haven’t really had to change anything about my camp kit. i researched the hell out of it before i bought anything. what i would need, thinking out all aspects of one night trips. everything i purchased ended up being perfect. except maybe my extra large inflatable mattress. i only got that to get my wife out with me a couple times. i would love to get something thats smaller and doesn’t require motorized inflation.

what i did change was the food i bring, and how i build and break down camp. getting better at all of it. my goal this summer is to camp once a week for the entire summer on my moto. before this summer, i never went moto camping. i also never camped alone before this summer.

i love it. wish i had some moto camping buddies. i did finally get my wife on the back of my bike for a mini moto camping trip about 30 minutes away. that was a blast. posts to come.

i lied. i added a few things.
a dry spec duffle, a small soft cooler, and an egg carrier.  : )

Edit: i lied again. i add things all the time - its an addiction.
